The time has come to tell the truth about commercial casting so that all myths will be dispelled and acting startups will know what's really going on. Well, here goes, the truth is, commercial casting could result in you getting you a job that could sustain you for years with an independent income and allow you to pursue your acting career in relative comfort, maybe even finding another commercial gig, which you will take even though it's not a lead in a feature film because you recognize the value of paying work even though you never wanted to rely on commercial casting because you are a movie star deep inside.

That being said, there is the other approach, which is to pursue all commercial casting opportunities as if they were gold no matter what the product or circumstance, and the movies be damned if they're not hiring. Commercial casting could do a lot for you should you take this attitude, and even eventually lead to television and film roles anyway just through the exposure you can get by doing a few commercials.

Some folks may have mixed emotions about accepting a gig resulting from a commercial casting call for a product made by a company they know to be disreputable or socially irresponsible, or perhaps because they know that the product itself is harmful or the assertions made about it by the company are largely exaggerated or untrue. There is nothing wrong with this, it is even commendable, but also consider that they will just get someone else to do it and keep selling it anyway, and you being broke and living out of your car will not help you to force corporations to be responsible. Is it cynical to say just do the job, you can have morals when you're rich? Or is it ironic? Only the commercial casting director knows...
